VSDI publishes position paper: "6 Months to the Launch of the EUDI Wallet"
The EUDI Wallet is due to launch in Germany on 2 January 2027. As the launch date draws nearer, specific implementation issues are becoming increasingly important. That is why we, the Association for Secure Digital Identity (VSDI), have today published our position paper entitled ‘6 months until the launch of the EUDI Wallet’.
The paper is based on a four-week member survey that we conducted in June 2026 amongst our members from the business, academic and public sectors. The aim was to identify the most important areas for action from a practical perspective for the remaining six months until the planned launch of the EUDI Wallet. The results highlight the issues currently of particular concern to the sector and where it sees the greatest opportunities and challenges for the successful launch of the wallet.
We have derived five key recommendations from the survey results. The focus is on trust and communication, specific use cases, a user-friendly onboarding process, clear technical standards and a reliable regulatory framework. From our members’ perspective, these issues will be crucial in ensuring that the EUDI Wallet can realise its potential for citizens, public administration and the business sector.
The coming months offer an opportunity to lay the foundations for a secure, trustworthy digital identity infrastructure that is fit for everyday use. For the EUDI Wallet to realise its full potential, technical, regulatory and communication-related requirements must all be advanced in equal measure.
